It is with the deepest sadness that we advise the recent passing of Professor Pete Cole, Past President of the Association, following a short illness. Pete was highly respected by the radiation protection community. As well as being President of AURPO from 2018/23 he was also President of The Society for Radiological Protection from 2015/17. Among his many accomplishments he co-authored the current edition of the critically acclaimed text book ‘An Introduction to Radiation Protection’. He was awarded Life Membership of AURPO at last month’s Annual Conference.

He was also extremely well-liked and a brilliant, kind and inspiring friend to many – with a great sense of humour. Pete really was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed.’ 

Pete joined the University of Liverpool in 2000 where he was appointed as the Radiation, Radioactive Waste and Laser Protection Adviser for the University. Obituary
